This morning I switched up my morning meditation and chose to move my body during a walk, smile at strangers, say hello and acknowledge my fellow earth family. As I was walking it dawned on me that I was practicing kindness, the sidewalk street art also happened to confirm that this is what was indeed happening. As a result of this practice I wound up having this conversation with myself and wanted to share the insight I received.
“When the idea to do something kind comes in, never think about it, just do it”. Often times, a kind gesture will grab my attention and then I begin to over think it and as a result put it off, find an excuse, and eventually the idea sadly remained an idea and a missed opportunity to share my heart, lift up others, and practice kindness.
“Kindness can be as simple as sharing a smile when walking past a stranger, it’s powerful enough to shift thoughts and to brighten another’s day and even create more kindness throughout the world. For some of us we even get to move past awkwardness and step out of our comfort zones with a smile practice.”
Considering others in any way is an act of kindness by anticipating and acting upon someones needs, offering assistance before someone even asks is also a contagious act of kindness being spread from one to another, to another. I believe kindness is highly contagious. Simple acts from pushing the walk button at a cross walk or in an elevator, even if you’re going in the other direction, holding a door open, moving your car up an inch so another person can fit in a parking spot are just a few small examples of considering another’s needs and therefore practicing kindness.
Then there’s also the act of giving things away, such as when you have a voucher, coupon or ticket and see someone who could or would enjoy it more, and giving it away. Often times I find myself accumulating freebies and never getting around to using them before expiration, resulting in waste and a missed opportunity to share. Which leads me to my next belief about kindness, it is not to be hoarded but shared always.
Plain and simple KINDNESS IS MAGIC and when you want to know how to attract more magic in your life it’s likely you’ll find your way by practicing kindness.
